East Coast Hound Addiction!

Addiction has been the theme of my sea fishing this week.  Two cracking fishing sessions on the Holderness Coast of East Yorkshire resulted in quite a few fish and a lot of different species.  My first trip was with Brian, an early morning session in daylight, fishing most of the flood and a few hours of the ebb.  We had a great time with some nice smoothounds and a bass to.

On my second visit a few days later, an all nighter seemed the best option with the colour dropping out of the water and time limitations to.  The fishing permission officer said I had to be back for dinner time!!!!

This time I took along fellow North East angler Nicky Robson, we elected to take lighter rods, combined with fixed spools and braid to for some exciting smoothound action. A method I can't wait to try again!

Info
The best time to try for hounds on the Holderness coast is late May, through to August.  Peeler crab is essential but the odd fish will take squid to. Small tides, an offshore wind with a flat sea is ideal.  Fishing can be good in daylight but this often depends upon how coloured the sea is, the murkier the better.  A session through the hours of darkness is likely to give you greater success.  Distance casting over 100 yds will often give you more fish to.

These fish have a great turn of speed!

Get ready for a last minute burst of action as the fish realise they are nearing the shore, reels need to have their drag set lightly to cope.

My two trips with Brian and Nicky resulted in twenty four smoothound, seven bass, dogfish, codling, spotted ray, whiting and dab. More pics for you below.....

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and report, tightlines, until the next time.
